About

Hello! I’m Helen South, and I work as a lecturer in Adult and Vocational Education at Charles Sturt University, Australia. To request my CV, please contact me via the university.

I am a visual artist, taught art via the About.com Drawing/Sketching site for over 10 years, and wrote The Everything Drawing Book for Adams publishing (now Simon & Schuster).

I am a keen Open Source software advocate, and have done some community work with openSUSE, a highlight of which was being invited by the project to participate in a marketing hackfest at SCaLE Linux Expo in Los Angeles.

Examples of my work with openSUSE
Mine:
Easily Building Software for Multiple Distributions and Platforms – Open Build Service

Collaboratively written:
openSUSE Conference 2010 – Collaborate Across Borders
Collaboration Across Borders at the openSUSE Conference
openSUSE 11.4 still going strong – Helen South & Jos Poortvliet

Other stuff I’ve made:

Visual Art – I’ll put up a gallery eventually.

Very amateurish beginnings of a Choose Your Own Adventure:
Trouble in Timgad

I am a proud member of the NTEU. Join your union!

I would like to acknowledge the Wiradjuri people who are the traditional and rightful owners of the land on which I live, and pay my respects to their Elders both past and present. This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
