Obsidian

Random PersonalKnowledgeNetwork thoughts (Braindump: in the interests of blogging more frequently, I’m not overworkshopping the literary value)

I decided to give Notion a miss – subscription based if you want syncing, limited export capability. I’m a big fan of maintaining control of my data and being able to move it between platforms. Not that said data is particularly interesting to anyone else, but hey, it’s my Stuff.

I’ve played with Obsidian before based on Tim Kapdor’s mention (ages ago; though it has a more recent mention here) though IIRC ended up with a lot of stuff synced to a public Github repo that I didn’t particularly want public (oops).  Take 2,  a more private sync solution thanks to Deepak K’s syncing between computers using Google Drive (his blog is well worth a visit –  offers lots of useful thoughts on digital tools).

I should probably look at Eleventy.  Now that I’ve got WordPress all set up and rolling, I’m not all that motivated to switch to another platform for my own publishing, but if if I’m likely to dabble in site creation for other educational purposes, it might be a nice tool to check out. Light, fast, and low-technical-overhead is good. Simple is good. It amazes me how often people find WordPress’s interface difficult, but I think the bloat is part of the problem. It’s just doing too much these days.
